The Original Book of Mormon Scenario Involved the Whole of the Americas

EARLIER CONCEPT:
THE TRADITIONAL VIEW

Joseph Smith published the Book of Mormon in 1830. According to Mr. Smith, the peoples described in the Book of Mormon ranged from what is now Chile up to the Great Lakes and even New York State. 1

This opinion was maintained within the LDS Church from 1830 onward - up into the mid to late 20th century - when it began to be internally challenged. 2

The LDS Church also historically taught that most [if not all] of the Native American peoples throughout the hemisphere were of Semitic origin - descendants of the Israelites. 3
